Shape your world

"It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look, which morally we can do. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts." -- Thoreau's Walden

Mad with the Christmas Spirit...

...of wasting money.

Really, the past few days, it's been like I can't stop myself.  Do you realize that I spent $140 on Christmas lights?  I got good deals on the new-style LED lights - the energy efficient ones that I told myself that I would buy this year.  Now, I have super buyers-remorse and they are going back to the stores that they came from for someone else to buy.

But, it's been like a binge, and I feel like I might if I had, say, eaten an entire dozen of bavarian creme donuts.  I have become fond of my frugality, and every time I whip out my debit card to pay for something, my head starts to spin.

But, here's the good news -- I filled up my car (I had less than 1/8th of a tank - please don't tell my husband) and the bill was $21.74.  I paid in cash.  I can't remember the last time that I did that!

You really don't want The Boy to move in with you -EVER. At the grand ol'age of almost 12 he still seems to think money is never ending. New house, new furniture, new bathroom decor, new clothes, new coat, new shoes, new lunch ticket to replace (for the fourth time) the one that went through the wash...

And I currently have ONE pair of jeans. ONE. ONE. Once again, my head is spinning round and I'm spewing green stuff....

Money. Saving. Spending. Is there really a good balance?
